At the heart of any successful chapter of Kappa Sigma is a strong recruitment program; a chapter is only as successful as the men it recruits. The Gamma-Delta Colony at UMass Amherst faced the challenge of recruiting 60 men to reach their chartering goal. In the early spring of 2013, brother Jake Vitrofsky and members of the national recruitment team set out to find a group of highly motivated and extraordinary individuals who were ready to take on the challenges of refounding a chapter of Kappa Sigma at UMass. By the end of the spring, 35 men had been pledged into the fraternity and took it upon themselves to someday be worthy to wear the badge of Kappa Sigma.
On February 8, 2014 the 65 Founding Fathers of the Gamma Delta colony were initiated and given their charter by The Worthy Grand Master of Kappa Sigma himself – establishing the Gamma Delta chapter of Kappa Sigma at UMass Amherst. With spring rush right around the corner, the brothers of Kappa Sigma prepared for their first ever Alpha pledge class. When the spring pledge process was over, Kappa Sigma welcomed 11 quality men into our brotherhood making us one of the largest fraternities on UMass’ campus after just one semester as a chapter. Today Kappa Sigma is a thriving fraternity chapter on UMass’ campus with the goal of becoming a model chapter in the northeast.
