Originally established in 1904 and rechartered on February 8, 2014, the Gamma-Delta chapter of Kappa Sigma is one of the largest fraternities on campus and we are redefining what it means to be Greek at UMass Amherst.
“The goal of each Kappa Sigma brother is to achieve the total development of a better man: academically, culturally, civically, and as a successful leader and role model to others. We provide each other with strong scholarship support, self-improvement opportunities, and an active social life.”
Here at the Gamma-Delta chapter of Kappa Sigma we pride ourselves on three unique aspects of our brotherhood: excellence in academics, plentiful social opportunities, and proactive campus and community involvement. The way we combine these aspects of our brotherhood with our fraternity’s values results in an unbelievable college experience filled with fond memories, lifelong friends, and a world of opportunity.
One of the four main pillars of Kappa Sigma is scholarship, so it comes as no surprise that we go out of our way to provide our brothers with the resources they need to succeed in their courses. With over 85 undergraduate brothers of 34 different majors there will always be someone to go to for help in a class or advice on which courses and professors to take. In addition, it is one of our scholarship chairs’ responsibilities to hold academic workshops each semester to help guide brothers through their coursework while at Umass. We even work closely with the administration in order to help our brothers find internships, research opportunities, or other extracurriculars.
One of the most rewarding aspects of joining a fraternity, specifically Kappa Sigma, is the abundance of social and networking opportunities. Social opportunities include brotherhood events such as rock climbing, paintball, visits to Puffer’s pond, BBQs, football, and many others which serve as fun ways for our brothers to hang out. Other events include fraternity and sorority mixers, date functions, and formals-among others. Special events such as the Kappa Sigma Leadership Conference and Grand Conclave provide our brothers with the opportunity to network with Kappa Sigma men from 316 chapters and colonies across college campuses in the U.S. Additionally, with the most undergraduate fraternity members and over 200,000 living alumni, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity provides an advantage like no other. Taking all this into consideration, by participating in the multitude of events of we offer our brothers you truly get to meet amazing people and expand your network tremendously.
Each week the Kappa Sigma brothers participate in some sort of service or philanthropic event. Whether we are volunteering at local Amherst non-profits, sponsoring campus philanthropy events, or contributing to charities of our own, we are always giving our time and talents to a greater cause. In the local community we are known for our brothers consistent involvement and many of our brothers are leaders in other on-campus clubs and activities. To date our chapter has raised over $58,000 for charitable causes and contributed over 60,000 hours of community service. At Kappa Sigma we challenge our brothers to live their life for A Greater Cause.
